The Preston Pub Festival is a celebration of the city's vibrant and historic pub culture, bringing together a curated selection of some of Preston's finest drinking establishments for a weekend-long event. The festival has quickly become a highlight on the local calendar, attracting locals and visitors alike. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage of Preston's pubs and discover new favourites.
A city-wide affair
Unlike a traditional beer festival held in a single location, the Preston Pub Festival is a city-wide affair. Participating pubs, ranging from long-standing institutions to newer craft beer bars, showcase their best offerings. Each venue often features special tap takeovers, limited-edition brews, and a wider selection of real ales, craft beers, and ciders than they normally have on offer. This format encourages a pub crawl-style exploration, allowing festival-goers to experience the unique atmosphere and character of each participating venue. The event is a testament to the city's thriving ale scene, supported by organisations like the Central Lancashire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).
The festival's atmosphere is a key part of its appeal. It’s a relaxed and friendly event, where the focus is on good company and quality drinks. While the main draw is the beer and ale, many of the pubs also offer special food menus and entertainment, from live music to pub quizzes, adding to the festive spirit. The festival celebrates not just the beverages, but the social hub that the pub represents in the heart of the community.
Inaugural event in 2023 featured 11 pubs
Since its successful creation, the Preston Pub Festival has grown in size and popularity. The inaugural event in 2023 featured 11 pubs, and the number of participating venues has steadily increased each year. It serves as a great way to celebrate the enduring appeal of the classic British pub and its role in a modern city. The festival typically takes place over a weekend in the early autumn, providing a perfect excuse to get out and enjoy a pint or two in the heart of Lancashire.
